Vampire phlebotomist beside a morning plan board, plain water, a blood tube, and a latte, representing a disrupted morning routine before fasting bloodwork.

I am a creature of habit.

A very caffeinated creature of habit.

Most mornings, I know exactly how things are going to go. I get up ridiculously early, take care of what I need to take care of, get my five-mile walk in, make myself a latte, and settle into my morning.

There is a system.

And I like my system.

Today, someone messed with the system. 😂

Apparently, I have a meeting with the vampires this morning. 🧛‍♀️🩸

Which means my normal morning has been temporarily replaced with a list of things I cannot do.

Normal workout? Not quite.

My beloved morning latte? Absolutely not.

What can I have?

Plain water.

How exciting. 😂💧

We are managing to sneak in part of our walk this morning, though, because I refuse to let the vampires take everything from me. It may not be the full workout I normally do, but something is better than nothing.

And thankfully, I’m not suffering through this tremendous hardship alone.

My husband, Chris, is home this morning, which means he gets the distinct privilege of experiencing pre-latte me firsthand while accompanying me to my appointment.

For better or worse.

For richer or poorer.

In sickness and in health.

In caffeine deprivation and laboratory waiting rooms. 😂

But somewhere between my dramatic mourning over my morning latte and our shortened walk, I realized something.

Not every day is going to fit perfectly into the routine we’ve created for ourselves.

Sometimes plans change. Appointments happen. Life interrupts. And sometimes keeping a promise to yourself doesn’t mean doing everything exactly the way you normally would.

Sometimes it simply means doing what you can with the morning you’ve been given.

And honestly, there are some pretty good things waiting on the other side of my meeting with the vampires.

Once they’ve collected their several tubes of my finest vintage, Chris and I get to head to the farmers market and the Asian market. 🥬🥟🛒

Now that is something I can get excited about.

So today, we’re getting part of the walk.

I’m drinking my incredibly thrilling plain water.

Chris is along for moral support.

The vampires are getting their breakfast. 🧛‍♀️🩸

And afterward, I get the farmers market, the Asian market and—most importantly—

somebody better get me my morning latte. ☕😂

Happy September, friends. 🍂💛

The morning may not be going according to plan, but that doesn’t mean it can’t still turn out to be a pretty good day.

Sometimes you just have to get past the vampires first.
