Cozy Monday morning with a sloth coffee mug and vanilla latte beside a rain-covered window during a thunderstorm.

I used to hate Mondays.

And I don’t mean a little ugh, the weekend is over kind of hate. I mean I would wake up angry simply because it was Monday.

The alarm would go off, and before the day had even done anything to me, I had already decided I didn’t like it.

Monday hadn’t even had its coffee yet, and I was already mad at it.

Funny how much can change.

These days, when I open my eyes in the morning, the first thing I do is give thanks to God for allowing me to see another day.

Because somewhere along the way, I realized that waking up isn’t something I want to take for granted.

Monday or not, I got another day.

And that’s worth being thankful for.

This morning was no different.

I got up early, like I always do, and did my five miles on the treadmill. Then I wandered into my kitchen and made myself a vanilla latte.

Outside, the rain was coming down and the storm was rolling through.

Inside, I had my latte, the comfort of home, and another morning in front of me.

Monday showed up with thunder and rain.

I responded with five miles on the treadmill and a homemade vanilla latte.

Monday may want to reconsider its choices.

😂

The funny thing is, Mondays haven’t really changed.

They still come around every seven days whether we invite them or not. There are still responsibilities waiting. There are still things that need to get done. Sometimes the weather is gloomy. Sometimes life is gloomy.

What changed was me.

I spent a lot of years waking up already angry at the day before I had even given it a chance.

Now I try to begin differently.

With gratitude.

With movement.

With coffee. Obviously.

And with the understanding that every morning I get to open my eyes is another opportunity to live this beautifully imperfect little life of mine.

So, do I have a case of the Mondays?

Maybe.

But these days, my version comes with five miles, a vanilla latte, a little gratitude, and the sound of rain outside my window.

I think I can live with that.

Happy Monday, y’all.
